Study

Education  With 42 universities and higher education colleges offering 30,000 courses, London provides a vibrant, creative and stimulating environment in which to study.

It offers a solid foundation for building a future and boosting career prospects and is the most popular destination in the world for studying.

In London there are currently over 80,000 international students from over 200 countries replicating its overall multi-cultural diversity. Chinese students represent the largest proportion of international students.

Study London

Study London is an organisation funded by the London Development Agency (LDA) to increase and embed the long term cultural and economic links between London and emerging economies.

Study London has been established to coordinate the promotion of London universities and attract a high number of overseas students to study in the capital.

Planned activity includes:

  • Production of promotional material
  • Web development
  • Produce quarterly research magazine 'London Focus'
  • Overseas education fairs and events
  • Online alumni network

The three pillars to the Study London strategy are:

  • To provide information and gather intelligence on the international student market and international competition;
  • To broker and provide co-ordination to improve London’s links with higher education and the emerging economies;
  • To promote London’s educational offer internationally, especially within the emerging economies of China and India.

The Study London strategy will provide the leadership to co-ordinate and build relationships between universities to assist in the dissemination of best practice.

The strategy requires engagement and partnership with other London organisations, e.g. Visit London, Think London, London Unlimited and the Mayor's Office.

As we operate within and across a variety of markets, we gather intelligence on specific issues and barriers that may prevent increasing student numbers. Main issues currently highlighted are the problem of high fees, the high cost of renting accommodation, restrictive visas and work extensions.

Through the provision of information, advertising and signposting, the Study London promotional campaign will promote London as an educational destination overseas, especially within the emerging economies of India and China.

Alumni networks help create long term economic links between London and emerging economies as London's students become the business and political leaders of tomorrow. Study London will foster links through the establishment of an on-line London student and alumni community and by hosting receptions for London’s alumni in key cities around the world.

Long term benefits of the Study London strategy are as follows:

  • Enhanced positioning of London as an educational destination and the world's knowledge capital
  • To establish Study London as an independent social enterprise that awards scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds to study in London.
