Knowledge transfer

Knowledge transfer is at the centre of London's economy enabling transferring of ideas and skills between universities, other knowledge base organisations, businesses and the wider community.

This vibrant exchange is facilitating development of innovative new products and services and, therefore, enhancing performance, competitiveness and sustainability of London business communities.

With 43 higher education institutions (HEIs) and 55 Further Education Colleges (FEs) alone, London is a Knowledge capital and businesses should make the most of the world class expertise that surrounds them.

The Knowledge Base can offer companies research, problem solving, facilities, product development, licensing of technology and more.

In order to extract maximum value from London's first class knowledge base to the benefit of London’s businesses the LDA is developing initiatives looking to:

  • Increase business demand for R&D, especially in SMEs;
  • Increase number of businesses within the region engaged in new collaborations with Knowledge Base;
  • Build capacity of Knowledge Base to commercialise knowledge;
  • Create better links between HEIs, broader regional innovation and business support infrastructure and business support organisations;
  • Encourage collaborative approach in Knowledge Transfer activities.
