Childcare

High childcare costs in London and the cost of housing are the barriers stopping thousands of parents entering paid employment and training.

The London Development Agency's (LDA's) strategy is designed to increase the availability of high-quality, affordable and accessible childcare to meet the needs of the capital's families, regardless of their income or employment status.

It also aims to support London's economic growth, enabling families to escape poverty and share in the capital’s success, both now and in the future.

Pilot programmes

The LDA aims to develop pilots that will provide support to parents, children and childcare providers across participating London boroughs.

The successful Childcare Affordability Programme 05 (CAP05) pilot, which ended in December 2009, helped over 10,000 parents to enter or sustain employment through affordable childcare.

The successor to the CAP05, Childcare Affordability Programme 09 (CAP09), was launched in December 2009 and aims to help 1,600 parents to enter and sustain employment for 12 months.

If you are a parent/carer seeking further information regarding the Childcare Affordability Programme, you can access support with childcare by contacting your local Family Information Service at your local authority.
