The British Library Business & IP Centre supports entrepreneurs and innovators from that first spark of an idea to successfully launching and growing a business, and ensures their idea is protected and registered.

Entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses.

How are we doing it?

The Centre provides free access to unrivalled business and intellectual property collections, support from expert staff, a comprehensive workshops and events programme and one-to-one advice.

What are the benefits?

Over 100,000 entrepreneurs have benefited from the Centre's services since it opened in March 2006, and over 2,000 workshops and one-to-one advice sessions have been delivered.

Why is the LDA involved?

The LDA funded the building and launch of the Centre, and co-funds the running of the Centre with the British Library, to help support small businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators.

When is the project happening?

The current funding agreement runs until March 2011.

What is the budget?

Funded until 2011 with £3.6m.

Details

The British Library Business & IP Centre in London is part-funded by the London Development Agency (LDA).

The Centre launched in March 2006 and supports entrepreneurs, inventors and small businesses in successfully launching and developing a business. Since the launch, over 32,000 entrepreneurs have used the Centre every year - over 100,000 in total.

The Centre offers free access to the UK's most comprehensive collection of business and intellectual property databases and publications, including:

  • information on patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright.

The Centre also offers:
